The superficial part of the posterior compartment of the forearm forms the outermost layer of muscles on the dorsal side of the forearm. These muscles are primarily responsible for extension of the wrist and fingers. Most of them originate from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, which is commonly referred to as the common extensor origin. From the shared origin site, their muscle fibers extend distally toward the wrist and hand, where they insert via long tendons, contributing to various movements.
