The flexor digitorum profundus is a broad, thick, fusiform muscle of the forearm located in the deep part of the anterior compartment. It is an extrinsic hand muscle responsible for flexion of the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of the medial four fingers, and it also assists in wrist flexion.
