The lateral muscles of the hand are a group of four intrinsic muscles located at the base of the thumb on the radial side of the palm. Three of these muscles form the thenar eminence, which is the prominent fleshy mound at the base of the first finger that provides the thumb with remarkable mobility and precision. These muscles are responsible for the fine movements of the thumb.
