The extensor pollicis brevis is a relatively short and thin muscle of the forearm that lies in the deep part of the posterior forearm compartment. It extends from the radius toward the thumb. It is an extrinsic hand muscle, and its main function is the extension of the thumb at the first carpometacarpal joint and metacarpophalangeal joint.
