The extensor carpi radialis longus is a long, fusiform skeletal muscle that lies in the superficial part of the posterior compartment of the forearm. It extends between the humerus and the second metacarpal bone. This muscle lies deep to the brachioradialis and superficial to the extensor carpi radialis brevis. In the arm, the brachialis lies medial to the extensor carpi radialis longus. Additionally, this muscle is positioned lateral to the pronator teres.
