The opponens digiti minimi is a short, triangular muscle located on the ulnar side of the palm. It lies superficial to the fifth metacarpal bone, medial and deep to the flexor digiti minimi and deep to the abductor digiti minimi. The opponens digiti minimi is the deepest muscle of the hypothenar muscles. Like other muscles of the group, it is an intrinsic hand muscle. Its primary function is to oppose the fifth finger toward the thumb at the fifth carpometacarpal joint, contributing to grip and fine motor tasks.
