The extensor pollicis longus is a slim muscle of the forearm that belongs to its posterior compartment, lying in its deep part. It extends between the posterior ulna and the thumb. The main function of this muscle is the extension of the thumb at the first carpometacarpal, first metacarpophalangeal, and interphalangeal joints.
