Anatomy.app Content News in November
As the spooky vibes of Halloween fade and the crisp autumn air begins to bite at our cheeks, the season of change has brought us some exciting new content here at Anatomy.app. Just as the world around us transforms, so does our collection of 3D models in the Skull topography article.
Our Encyclopedia continues to expand, now featuring a detailed overview of the Urinary system. Moreover, our Media Library is more colorful and dynamic than ever, packed with fresh, stunning illustrations and new, clear Animated 3D materials that focus on showcasing those complex movements at the hip and knee joints.
So be ready to take your anatomical understanding to new heights this month. Below, let's dive right into the details of what's new!
1. 3D Anatomy: New Models Added to Our 3D Skull Topography Article
You may remember that some time ago, we started revising our 3D Skull topography article. During August, we made significant updates to this article by adding numerous fresh and polished 3D models, with only the final few slides left to complete. The long wait is finally over - the new 3D models for those last slides have finally arrived.
With this update, you can take an up-close look at the frontal, sphenoid, and maxillary sinuses in striking detail. As we wrote in our previous blog, we've also fully revised and enhanced all accompanying textual descriptions of these slides for a deeper, more comprehensive understanding.
Curious about where the frontal or sphenoid sinuses drain? Or maybe you're wondering about what the primary and secondary septae of the maxillary sinus are. Look no further! Our 3D Skull topography article has all the answers you're seeking.

2. Media Library: New Animated 3D Materials
In October, our Media Library received a bunch of new Animated 3D materials. This time, we spotlighted the lower limb. Special attention was given to the knee and hip joints, which are two of the most complex junctions in the human body. Understanding the types of movements these joints allow is key to grasping the bigger picture when studying this region.
Some of the movements performed at the hip joint are easier to understand when the leg is bent at the knee. To help with this, we've made several variations of the same movements for you to explore in our Media Library. Here is a quick breakdown of the new movements available:
- Internal (medial) and external (lateral) rotation of the knee
- Flexion and extension of the knee
- Internal and external rotation of the hip with a straight leg
- Internal and external rotation of the hip with a bent leg
- Circumduction of the hip
- Abduction and adduction of the hip
- Flexion and extension of the hip with a straight leg
- Flexion of the hip with a bent leg
- Extension of the hip with a bent leg
Don't just read about these movements in the textbooks - head over to our Media Library and check them out for yourself: https://anatomy.app/media?categoryType=regions&mediaType=animatedModel
3. Encyclopedia: Plenty of Fresh Illustrations
As we do every month, October was no exception - we enriched our Media Library with a ton of fresh illustrations. The largest batch of new visuals received the articles that can be found under the Topography of the skull section in our Encyclopedia.
Whether you're looking to understand which bones form the infratemporal fossa or want to see the borders of the middle cranial fossa, our latest illustrations cover these topics and more.
As always, here's a complete list of all the articles that became more colorful by receiving new visuals in October:
- Anatomical terminology
- Urinary system
- Nasal cavity
- Maxillary sinus
- Orbit
- Anterior cranial fossa
- Middle cranial fossa
- Posterior cranial fossa
- Infratemporal fossa
- Pterygopalatine fossa
As you may have noticed, our goal is to present complex anatomical topics in a much simpler and more understandable way. Believe us, when we say we know that anatomy can be challenging, we actually mean it. With these new visuals, you'll say goodbye to any confusion you may have.

4. Encyclopedia: New Article on the Urinary System
In October, we also added a brand-new article to our Encyclopedia. It provides an in-depth overview of the urinary system and is designed to give a solid foundation for understanding this vital human body system. The new article begins with general information about the urinary system and then explains its two divisions before reviewing each of its organs. This sequential arrangement gives a clearer picture of how everything is connected.
This article also pays special attention to each organ that comprises the urinary system. First, of course, it reviews the most important organs of the excretory system - the kidneys and their functions like blood filtration and fluid balance regulation. Then, the article also breaks down the anatomy of the ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra, giving a detailed look at how each organ contributes to the overall function of the urinary system.
You may have noticed that we also added new illustrations to our Media Library on the urinary system during October. To make the information in this new Urinary system article even easier to grasp, we accompanied it with several visuals that clearly represent what's written in the text. This combination of textual descriptions and clear illustrations is a valuable resource for anyone looking to grasp the essentials of the urinary system.
