The pterygoid canal is found within the pterygoid part of the sphenoid, just superior to the scaphoid fossa at the root of the medial pterygoid plate. It passes forward through the base of the pterygoid process, connecting the pterygopalatine fossa with the middle cranial fossa. This canal is also known as the Vidian canal.
