The stylomastoid foramen is a rounded opening found on the inferior surface of the petrous part of the temporal bone immediately posterior to the base of the styloid process. It represents the external opening of the facial canal. The stylomastoid foramen serves as an exit point for the facial nerve (CN VII) and an entrance site for the stylomastoid artery.
