Inferior tibiofibular joint
The inferior tibiofibular joint (Latin: syndesmosis tibiofibularis) is a fibrous articulation located in the distal aspect of the lower leg. This joint is also known as the distal tibiofibular joint or syndesmosis and the inferior tibiofibular syndesmosis. It is formed between the fibular notch of the tibia and the distal epiphysis of the fibula.
Ligaments of inferior tibiofibular joint
The inferior tibiofibular joint is strengthened by two strong ligaments. These bands include the anterior and posterior tibiofibular ligaments. The first band connects both bones on their ventral aspects, while the posterior tibiofibular ligament links the tibia and fibula on their dorsal sides.
