Inferior rectal nerves

The inferior rectal nerves (Latin: nervi rectales inferiores) are small branches of the pudendal nerve.

The inferior rectal nerves arise in the pudendal canal, crosses the ischioanal fossa and runs through the fat body of the ischioanal fossa to the anus.

The inferior rectal nerves innervate the external anal sphincter and levator ani muscles, as well as the skin in the anal region.
