The lateral aspect of the base of the fifth metatarsal bone has a blunt nonarticular projection called the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal bone. It is sometimes referred to as a styloid process. It projects backward and serves as the insertion site for the tendon of the fibularis (peroneus) longus muscle
