First metatarsal bone

The first metatarsal bone is the most massive but also the shortest and widest metatarsal bone. Its base articulates with the medial cuneiform (articular surface for the medial cuneiform), and the lateral side of the base may also connect with the second metatarsal bone. Additionally, the base of the first metatarsal has a tuberosity. In contrast, the head of the first metatarsal articulates with the base of the proximal phalanx (articular surface for the proximal phalanx).
