Third metatarsal bone

The third metatarsal bone appears similar to the second metatarsal bone. However, it is shorter. The third metatarsal has two articular surfaces on the medial aspect of the base for articulation with the second metatarsal bone. The lateral basal facet is single and large, and it articulates with the fourth metatarsal bone. The base itself is more squarer than the base of the second metatarsal bone. Proximally, the third metatarsal articulates with the lateral cuneiform.
