The second metatarsal bone is the longest and narrowest among metatarsal bones. Its base has three lateral articular surfaces - one for the lateral cuneiform and two for the third metatarsal bone. Proximally, the bone articulates with the intermediate cuneiform while medially with the medial cuneiform.
