The metatarsal bones are a group of five long bones that are found within the foot positioned between the tarsal bones and the phalanges. These bones appear tubular-shaped, and their distal ends are rounded, while the proximal ends are more squarish. In the lateral view, the plantar aspects of the metatarsal bones are more concave than their dorsal surfaces.
