The proximal epiphysis of the fibula is swollen. It appears more massive than the distal epiphysis and is less flattened in the mediolateral direction. The swollen part is known as the head of the fibula. Several structures attach to the head, including the biceps femoris muscle and lateral collateral ligament of the knee.
