The posterior scalene muscle - scalenus posterior is the third and last of scalene muscles. Like the anterior scalene muscle and middle scalene muscle, the posterior scalene is also positioned in the lateral compartment of the neck. It is the smallest muscle of the group, and it is also situated most profoundly.
