Suboccipital muscles

The suboccipital muscles are a group of four paired muscles located deep in the suboccipital region of the neck at the base of the occipital bone, which is why the group has such a name. These muscles are situated deep to the trapezius, splenius capitis and semispinalis capitis muscles, and they are positioned inferior to the external occipital protuberance and superior nuchal line of the occipital bone. In fact, most of these muscles are attached to the occipital bone at the inferior nuchal line.
