The thyrohyoid muscle is a relatively small, flat and quadrilateral-shaped infrahyoid muscle. It is positioned in the anterior aspect of the neck deep to the sternohyoid muscle. The thyrohyoid stretches between the thyroid cartilage of the larynx and the hyoid bone. This muscle is considered an extension of the sternothyroid muscle, as it begins where the sternothyroid ends.
