Digastric muscle
The digastric muscle is a paired muscle that lies below the mandible and is classified as one of the suprahyoid muscles. It is composed of two muscular bellies called the anterior belly and posterior belly. Both are connected by an intermediate tendon that passes through a U-shaped fibrous tissue loop that is attached to the superior aspect of the hyoid bone at the junction site of the body and greater horn. The loop acts as a pulley, and it allows the intermediate tendon to slide in the anterior and posterior directions.
