The sternohyoid is a thin and flat muscle located below the hyoid bone on either side of the midline in the anterior neck compartment. It stretches between the clavicle, sternum and hyoid bone. Together with other infrahyoid neck muscles, the sternohyoid contributes to the depression of the hyoid bone during speaking, chewing and swallowing.
