The lesser wings are two thin triangular-shaped plates that arise from the anterosuperior aspect of the body of the sphenoid. They lie in the horizontal plane and project superolaterally. Posteriorly, the lesser wings end in sharp points. The lesser wings contribute to the floor of the anterior cranial fossa. Moreover, they separate the anterior cranial fossa from the middle cranial fossa.
