The anterior cranial fossa, or the anterior skull base, lies most anteriorly at the highest level of the internal cranial base above the nasal cavity and orbits. It is composed of the frontal bone, ethmoid, and sphenoid. This fossa is occupied by the frontal lobes of the brain and the olfactory bulbs and olfactory tracts.
