The tympanic part is the smallest portion of the temporal bone. It is positioned immediately below the origin of the zygomatic process. The tympanic part is situated inferior to the squamous part, anterior to the mastoid part, lateral to the petrous part, and superior to the styloid process. It appears like a curved plate that surrounds the external acoustic (auditory) opening.
