The genitofemoral nerve originates from the lumbar plexus and innervates the skin of the upper anterior thigh, labia majora and mons pubis. It arises from the ventral rami of the first and second lumbar nerves (L1 - L2). Please note that in men, the genitofemoral nerve is a mixed nerve because its genital branch supplies the cremaster muscle, whereas in women, it is primarily sensory, as it does not innervate any muscles.
