The middle cluneal nerves (also called the middle gluteal cutaneous nerves) are sensory nerves that arise from the dorsal rami of the first to third sacral nerves (S1 - S3). These nerves do not contribute to the sacral plexus, and they provide sensory innervation to the skin of the middle gluteal region over the gluteus maximus muscle.
