Femoral nerve

The femoral nerve is the largest nerve of the lumbar plexus. It is a mixed nerve that arises from the posterior divisions of the ventral rami of the second to fourth lumbar nerves (L2 - L4). It provides motor innervation to the iliacuspectineussartorius, and quadriceps muscles. This nerve also provides sensory innervation to the anteromedial aspect of the thigh, the anteromedial, medial, and posteromedial aspects of the leg, the medial malleolus, and the medial foot down to the base of the hallux. Additionally, it supplies the hip joint and knee joint.
