The perforating cutaneous nerve is a sensory nerve that arises from the posterior divisions of the ventral rami of the second to third sacral nerves (S2 - S3). It supplies the inferior aspect of the buttocks. Occasionally, this nerve may be absent. In that case, its area of innervation is provided by the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve or the pudendal nerve.
