The spleen is fixed in its place by surrounding organs, intra-abdominal pressure, and ligaments. All ligaments that fix the spleen are components of the greater omentum (omentum majus).

Gastrosplenic ligament (lig. gastrosplenicum) - a broad but thin delicate ligament that passes anterior to the splenic hilum (hilum splenis), connecting the splenic hilum with the superior third of the greater curvature of the stomach (curvatura major gastris); contains short gastric (aa. et vv. gastricae breves) and the left gastroepiploic (gastroomental) vessels (a. et v. gastroepiploica (gastroomentalis) sinistra) and their associated lymphatics; usually, a small portion of this ligaments blends with the phrenicocolic ligament (lig. phrenicocolicum); it is continuous with the splenorenal ligament (lig. splenorenale).
Splenorenal (lienorenal) ligament (lig. splenorenale s. lig. lienorenale) - extends posteriorly to the splenic hilum(hilum splenis), connecting the splenic hilum to the anterior aspect of the left kidney (ren sinister); it transmits the splenic artery and vein (a. et v. splenica); also, the tail of the pancreas (cauda pancreatis) lies within this ligament.
Phrenicosplenic ligament (lig. phrenicosplenicum) - connects the inferior (abdominal) surface of the diaphragmto the posterior extremity of the spleen (extremitas posterior splenis); it is a continuation of the gastrosplenic ligament; it is often absent or not fully developed.
Splenocolic ligament (lig. splenocolicum) - a short ligament that connects the anterior extremity of the spleen (extremitas anterior splenis) to the left colic (splenic) flexure (flexura sinistra (splenica) coli).
Pancreaticosplenic ligament (lig. pancreaticosplenicum) - a thin and cord-like ligament that is not always present; it is only present when the tail of the pancreas (cauda pancreatis) does not touch the spleen; it connects the tail of the pancreas to the anterior extremity of the spleen.
Phrenicocolic ligament (lig. phrenicocolicum) - this ligament is not directly connected to the spleen but plays an essential role in its fixation; connects the left colic (splenic) flexure with the diaphragm near the eleventh rib (costa XI); this ligament is found inferior and lateral to the spleen; although it does not directly attach to the spleen, it supports its anterior extremity; it is also known as the Hensing's ligament.
