Innervation
The spleen receives innervation from the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the autonomic nervous system (pars sympathica et pars parasympathica divisionis autonomicae) via the nerves coming from the celiac plexus (plexus coeliacus). These nerves form the splenic plexus (plexus splenicus), which travels along the splenic artery (a. splenica) and its branches to reach the hilum of the spleen (hilum splenis).
