Poles of testicles
As mentioned earlier, each testicle appears oval-shaped. Therefore, it has the following two poles:
- Superior pole - the upper end of each testicle; covered by the epididymis; sometimes, this pole may have a projection known as the appendix of testicle, which is a developmental remnant of the paramesonephric duct (Müllerian duct);
- Inferior pole - the lower end of each testicle; it is connected to the inferior aspect of the scrotum via the scrotal ligament (remnant of the gubernaculum testis).
