The epididymis consists of the following three parts:

Head - the largest and most proximal portion that points upward and is found at the upper pole of the testicle; it is formed by the efferent ductules of the testicle; it may have a small projection called the appendix of epididymis, which is a developmental remnant of the mesonephric duct;
Body - the middle portion, which begins without a visible border; it is formed by the heavily coiled duct of epididymis;
Tail - the terminal and most distal portion that is continuous with the ductus deferens; it is found at the inferior pole of the testicle; this part is the primary storage site for mature sperm.
