The transverse colon is the longest and most mobile part of the large intestine - it is approximately 15.75 to 19.69 inches (40 - 50 cm) long. It crosses the upper aspect of the abdominal cavity from the right to the left side, extending between the right and left colic flexures. It begins as a continuation of the ascending colon at the right colic flexure and ends at the left colic flexure, transitioning into the descending colon.
