Characteristic features of large intestine

Like the small intestine, the large intestine also has several characteristic features. Although the diameters of the colon and rectum can be quite variable, the large intestine generally has a larger lumen than the small intestine. The colon is about twice the diameter of the small intestine. Also, most of the large intestine is relatively fixed in place.
