These structures include the following:

Cornea (Read more!) - the clear, dome-shaped anterior portion of the fibrous layer of the eyeball; it provides the largest contribution to the focusing power of the eye;
Aqueous humor - a transparent water-like fluid produced by the ciliary processes of the ciliary body; it fills the anterior and posterior chambers (Read more!) between the iris and cornea and between the iris and lens; it nourishes and protects the cornea and lens, maintains intraocular pressure, and also helps refract light;
Lens (Read more!) - a flexible, biconvex structure located behind the iris and anterior to the vitreous body; it fine-tunes focus for objects at different distances through accommodation;
Vitreous body (Read more!) - a transparent, gel-like substance filling the posterior aspect of the eyeball between the lens and retina; it maintains the shape of the eyeball and allows light to pass to the retina.

Together, these refractive media ensure that light entering the eye is precisely focused on the retina, enabling sharp and clear vision. Any changes in their shape, transparency, or alignment (like in cataracts or myopia) can lead to blurred or distorted vision.
