The diaphysis of the humerus is also known as the body or shaft. It is the long cylindrical-shaped middle part of the humerus that gives attachment to several muscles. Cross-section studies of the body reveal that the proximal aspect of the shaft is circular, while its distal portion is more compressed and appears triangular-shaped and flattened.
