The sartorius is a thin superficial muscle located in the anterior compartment of the thigh. It is not only the longest muscle of the thigh but also the longest muscle in the human body. The sartorius travels obliquely down the length of the thigh, extending from the ilium of the hip bone to the medial aspect of the tibia.
