The psoas major muscle is a long and large muscle of the pelvis that joins with the iliacus muscle and forms the iliopsoas muscle. It is located lateral to the lumbar spine. The psoas major extends between the thoracic vertebrae and lumbar vertebrae and femur. The psoas major muscle is composed of two parts - superficial and deep.
