The quadratus lumborum muscle is an irregular quadrilateral-shaped muscle that lies deep in the abdomen. It is the deepest muscle of the posterior abdominal wall and is positioned posterior to the iliopsoas muscle. The quadratus lumborum extends between the ilium of the hip bonetwelfth rib and lumbar vertebrae.
