Anterior atlantoaxial membrane

The anterior atlantoaxial membrane is a thin fibrous tissue sheet that connects the anterior surface of the body of the axis (C2) to the anterior arch of the atlas (C1). Laterally, it blends with the atlantoaxial joint capsules. This membrane spans the atlantoaxial joint and contributes to its stability.
