The apical ligament of dens (also known as the apical odontoid ligament) extends from the apex of the dens (odontoid process) of the axis (C2) to the anterior margin of the foramen magnum on the occipital bone. It lies between the pair of alar ligaments, but there is no blending and contact between these ligaments.
