The pulmonary trunk, also called the main pulmonary artery, arises from the right ventricle of the heart and is responsible for carrying deoxygenated blood to the lungs. It gives rise to two pulmonary arteries that participate in pulmonary circulation - the circulation system between the heart and lungs.
