The distal segment of the RCA includes the following vessels:

Atrioventricular nodal branch - it branches off the RCA and travels within the atrioventricular (coronary) sulcus, forming a U-shaped curve at the cardiac crux around the middle cardiac vein and passing anteriorly along the base of the interatrial septum; it supplies the AV node and proximal portions of the bundles of His;
Posterior atrial branches - small arteries that vary in number, location and size; supply the posterior aspect of the right atrium;
Posterior right ventricular branches - numerous small branches that pass over the inferior aspect of the right ventricle, supplying it;
Posterior descending artery (PDA) - blood vessel that defines coronary artery dominance; it is also called the posterior or inferior interventricular artery; it is the most prominent inferior branch that arises as a continuation of the RCA at the cardiac crux on the diaphragmatic surface of the heart; it passes downward within the posterior interventricular sulcus toward the apex of the heart; on its way, the artery supplies the interventricular septum and adjacent surfaces of the right ventricle and left ventricle; as the PDA reaches the cardiac apex, it anastomoses with the left anterior descending artery (LAD) of the left coronary artery (LCA);
- Interventricular septal branches - numerous short branches that arise from the PDA; they are usually positioned to the right side of the interventricular septum; supply the posterior one-third of the interventricular septum;
Posterior left ventricular branches - they are also called the posterolateral branches; they represent the continuation of the RCA beyond the PDA; these branches transverse the interventricular septum and supply the inferior wall of the left ventricle.

Note: The posterior descending artery (PDA) most commonly arises from the right coronary artery (RCA); if it happens, the right dominant circulation is present. However, it may also arise from the left circumflex artery (LCx). Also, the atrioventricular nodal artery is a branch of the left circumflex artery (LCx)) in about 20% of cases. This variation happens if the codominant circulation or left dominant circulation is present.
