The venous drainage of the cerebrum happens through two groups of venous blood vessels - the superficial and deep cerebral veins.

The main superficial cerebral veins are the following:

Superior cerebral veins - these veins drain venous blood from the upper parts of the superolateral surface and medial surfaces of the cerebrum. These veins flow into the superior sagittal sinus.
Inferior cerebral veins - these veins drain the inferior portion of the cerebrum. The blood is drained into the transverse sinus, cavernous sinus, superior petrosal sinus, inferior sagittal sinus and sphenoparietal sinus.
Superficial middle cerebral vein (also known as Sylvian vein) - this vein drains the superolateral surface of each cerebral hemisphere because it lies along the length of lateral sulcus. The vein flows into the superior sagittal sinus via the superior anastomotic vein, and into the transverse sinus via the inferior anastomotic vein.

The deep cerebral veins include the following:

Internal cerebral veins - veins that drain the internal capsule and corpus callosum, as well as other parts outside the cerebrum. The internal cerebral veins merge to form the great cerebral vein.
Great cerebral vein - these veins receive the basal veins, they drain the occipital lobes, as well as the corpus callosum.
