Large intestine

The large intestine is the final part of the gastrointestinal tract. It lies within the abdominal and pelvic cavities and can extend up to 5.7 feet (1.75 meters) in adults. It begins at the ileocecal valve as the cecum and is a continuation of the small intestine. Therefore, the large intestine is positioned between the ileum and the anus.
