The stomach is positioned in the left upper abdominal quadrant. Most of it is located in the left hypochondriac region, while a small portion can be found in the epigastric region. The stomach is an intraperitoneal organ, and the peritoneum covers it from all sides and connects it with other organs.

Relations of stomach

The stomach connects with the following organs and structures:

Superior - esophagus (Read more!) and left dome of the diaphragm (Read more!);
Anterior - left lobe of the liver (Read more!), anterior abdominal wall, and diaphragm;
Posterior - diaphragm, body and tail of the pancreas (Read more!), splenic artery, spleen (Read more!), left kidney (Read more!), and left suprarenal (adrenal) gland (Read more!);
Inferior - duodenum (Read more!), transverse colon (Read more!), greater omentum, and coils of the small intestine (Read more!).

The greater omentum contacts with the greater curvature as it extends downward from it. In contrast, the lesser curvature of the stomach is linked to the lesser omentum, which extends to the liver.
