The ileal arteries anastomose and form many arterial loops known as arterial arcades. The arterial arcades further give off straight arteries called the vasa recta. The straight arteries go within the mesentery towards the coils of the small intestine. It should be noted that a double row of arterial arcades supplies the ileum.
