Arterial blood supply of kidneys

The arterial blood supply of each kidney is provided by a single renal artery, which is a large visceral branch of the abdominal aorta. The renal arteries originate from each lateral side of the abdominal aorta at right angles just inferior to the origin of the superior mesenteric artery. These vessels usually arise at the level between the L1 and L2 vertebrae.
